THE ANTIQUARY

An interesting traditional pub midway along St. Stephen Street.  If you remember the Sixties, and wish that they never ended - visit the Antiquary!
On Thursday evenings they have a good acoustic music evening.  If you want to participate, just turn up with your instrument - mainly seem to be strings, woodwind and accordion, but also others (recently saxophone and penny whistle) - although trombones etc might be regarded as somewhat OTT.)
Friday evenings from 5pm to 7pm feature reduced-price drinks, and the weekly quiz is conducted by with Dave "The Quizmaster"
on Wednesday evenings.

THE STANDING ORDER

On George Street, near Frederick Street (yes, there are pubs outside Stockbridge!).  Wide selection of food and drink at very competitive prices.  This is a converted bank, retaining many original features and is well worth a visit (well done Wetherspoons!)  Possibly the largest pub in the city with lots of seating and tables, so a good venue for groups.

THE ATHLETIC ARMS 1/3 Angle Park Terrace
This pub is a traditional bar and its owner has resisted any temptation at theming.  It is one of the most respected pubs amongst local and visiting beer lovers.
If you have to ask a local your way here, they might not have heard of it!  That's because a long time ago it became known as "The Diggers" due to the nearby graveyard.  I suspect the official name reflects the nearby sports grounds, such as Murrayfield and Tynecastle.

VICTORIA AND ALBERT
Frederick Street.  Predominantly a restaurant, but does also have a cosy and comfortable bar which also serves snacks and burgers.  Although the selection of beer is a little limited, this is more than made up for by the outstanding charm of the staff!
One of the few places in town that welcomes kids, so useful for a break from shopping.  If you do take the kids, try to keep their eyes away from the "Electronics Boutique" across the road, otherwise your visit might turn out more expensive than planned.  A pleasant place to take the family.

BRECKS
Rose Street. Spacious and comfortable city-centre pub.  The sign outside reads "Come in and find out what Mary Bo can do for you"  It turns out that Mary Bo is the Chef.

THE QUEENS ARMS (Frederick Street)
The Queen in question is Mary Queen of Scots, and you can probably learn more about Scottish history from the walls of this pub than you could at some local schools.  However don't be put off, this is not a theme pub, and what's more, they serve a good pint of Caledonian 80 Shilling and Deuchars IPA.

KAY'S BAR
A small bar tucked away in Jamaica Street Lane East (Just off India Street)  Enjoys a very good reputation locally for quality, service and selection of beers.

THE BANK HOTEL (LOGIE BAIRDS BAR) (click here to see their website)

Situated at the corner of the High Street and South Bridge, this is a pleasant city-centre watering-hole, and being halfway along the Royal Mile is ideally situated for thirsty tourists.
